It was a warm day in Pamplona (Spain). Running with the bulls was on top of my bucket list and 2014 was the year to check that box. Excitement was building as I stood anxiously with the other runners preparing to embark on the run of my life. Then I saw HER at the front of the group of runners. OMG! She looked familiar. Wait, she had been in the extreme basket weaving class the day before. Was this fate?
The bulls were released and we were off. As I rounded the first turn, there she was, pinned in a corner with a 2 ton beast bearing down on her. With adrenaline coursing through my body, I managed to run past the bull, and safely set her over the barricade…
Actually the truth is tremendously more exciting than the gibberish above - Our amazing life together started when I saw Sparkle Girl11 on Match.com. I was instantly mesmerized. Suddenly a sense of excitement and extreme confidence overcame me. I sent her an email at 8pm asking where is Gruene Texas? It is a place she mentioned in her profile. Within a few minutes she replied. I asked myself if I even wanted to read the reply. I could not bear the thought of reading "no thanks or anything negative". But then again, why would she reply, to say no thanks. My mind was racing. A minute or so later I read the response and literally screamed "yes" out loud because she responded positively.
The emails went back and forth that evening until one particular response from Beautiful (beautiful, love, baby, princess, gorgeous, precious, sweet, etc. are names I call Lynn) that read as a wide open door invitation to ask her out. I was excited!!! I asked her to meet at an Italian restaurant named La Gondola. She said yes and we began texting at 9:45 until a lil after 11pm. I’ve had a smile on my face from cheek to cheek ever since. This was Thursday January 2nd.
During the drive to La Gondola the next evening I began getting texts from Sweet and I could tell she was nervous. Shhhhh don't tell anybody. I was extremely nervous as well. I took the uncomfortable situation to encourage and make light of the date. I said something like this in a text "we have to eat, I won't bite, we will have some wine, enjoy an excellent meal and each other's company. No pressure, no stress, it’s just a meal". I was standing outside my truck when Baby parked next to me. Then she stepped out her car and spoke. OMG!!! The world slowed down and things got blurry. I felt lightheaded. I struggled to make words come out my mouth. Honestly.
In an effort to hit the high points of dinner at La Gondla. I will not chronicle every moment. The wine and food were excellent. The conversation was phenomenal. As Sweet laughed she would throw her head back as her entire countenance glowed. It was happiness, childlike, purity. The meal and evening was coming to a close; we had ONLY been there 2-1/2 hours. It wasn't long enough. I wanted, I needed more time with this amazing woman sitting right there. She was mere inches away. What could I do, what?! I didn't know much about her but I wanted to know everything but time was running out. Then like a voice from heaven our waitress asked "dessert?" We shared almost 30 more minutes together. |
