 | We met in college 10 years ago through a mutual friend, Matt Miller. I went to Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY and Nick attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. One summer day Matt told me he had someone he wanted me to meet. Of course I thought, sure whatever, but I was open. One day while at the swimming pool with my dear friend Danielle, Matt and this very tall, handsome guy joined us. Of course that guy was Nick. We chatted for a bit while we sat on the side of the pool. He asked if he could call me later, I said no. It wasn’t that I didn’t think he was attractive, I could just tell he was a ladies man. Nick was smooth, suave and had a way with words and I thought, NO WAY. Later that night the 4 of us met at Denny’s. He asked again for my number and I said no at first but eventually I gave in. After that night we dated long distance for about a year, traveling back and forth in our hooptie cars trying to get to one another, snow, rain or shine. Soon the distance would prove to be too much for two college students with millions of distractions. Nick was an athlete and active in his fraternity and I was a bookworm and a workaholic.
Fast forward 9 years, I began to receive inbox messages on my Facebook from Nick checking in on me. Every now and then he would mention that he wanted to meet, maybe for dinner or lunch. I would politely decline; thinking he probably still had that ladies’ man swag. In Spring/Summer 2013, Nick reached out again and this time I thought, why not. It’s just lunch and I could use some time away. So, I headed to Chicago. I fell in love that weekend all over again and on the drive back home, September 7th, 2013, I knew the Lord had blessed me with the one.
